It’s been a whirlwind of a day. I put together a last minute shoot yesterday because my good friends at Horn Photo and Sony were generous enough to let me play with the brand new a7RII. This camera has the makeup of being a game-changer, and I wanted to see if everything on paper translates well in reality. The only way I know how to test a camera is to put it through an honest-to-goodness photo session. No test subjects and no lab tests, just use it straight up in a normal photo shoot. More specifically, I did a vintage bridal shoot with one of my wedding clients.
I couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of some friends in the wedding industry who are some of the best at what they do: Sherri Mosher from Madeleine’s Bridal Boutique provided the vintage wedding dress & makeup, and Amy DeGraw from Brown Bunny Flowers put together the beautiful bouquet. Now to some sample images and a short video I put together with some footage from the a7RII.
FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS @ f/2.8 1/160 sec., ISO 200
FE 35mm F1.4 ZA @ f/1.4 1/500 sec., ISO 100
FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS @ f/2.8 1/125 sec., ISO 100
FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS @ f/2.8 1/200 sec., ISO 200
FE 35mm F1.4 ZA @ f/2.8 1/400 sec., ISO 100
FE 35mm F1.4 ZA @ f/2.0 1/200 sec., ISO 100
FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS @ f/2.8 1/320 sec., ISO 200
A full review is definitely worth doing for this camera, but in the meanwhile, I thought I’d share some initial photos from this session. By the way, the lenses I used on this shoot were also provided by Sony, and they are some of the best out there. So, what’s my first impression after finally using the a7RII? Let’s just say, I think A LOT of people will be switching to Sony this year.
Special Thanks
I can’t say this enough — thanks again to Horn Photo for sponsoring this post and hooking the brotha up with a first look at this highly anticipated piece of gear. I go to them for all my camera gear, they simply have the best customer service and it’s just plain fun to hang out there with the kids. I also want to thank Glenn Weinfeld at Sony for letting me create some wonderful images with their excellent gear.
